MGM Grand Macau
One of the real hotspots if you are into gambling is Macau, a bit reason for this is the huge number of hotels and casinos that are being built in the city. One of the better one is the MGM Grand Macau. This was built by the same company that owns the MGM Grand in Las Vegas and is similar in design.
The MGM Grand Macau was one of the first of the foreign owned hotels and casinos to come to the city. Up until 2002 there was a monopoly held on casino ownership in Macau by one company which kept the foreigners out. With the change in policy the monopoly is no longer in place and the big Las Vegas casino owners have started to put up casinos and hotels in Macau. The MGM however is somewhat unique in that the company actually went into a partnership with the company that used to hold the monopoly to build this one. This was done to take advantage of the expertise they had in the local market.
When the MGM Grand Macau was built it completely changed the casino and hotel industry in the city. The industry is now dominated by big hotels and casinos that are similar to the ones in Las Vegas. However with there being fewer of them and more visitors to Macau the casinos have gotten a lot bigger. The MGM Grand which would have been considered a big hotel and casino when it was built is now one of the smaller ones. This is not necessarily bad since there are many people who prefer to stay at the smaller hotels that aren't so crowded.
The main focus of the MGM Grand Macau is of course the casino. There are hundreds of gaming tables and slot machines which should be more than enough to keep gamblers happy. That being said they are adding a new casino area. Like all of the big Las Vegas hotels there is much more to the MGM Grand than the casino. There is a large shopping area, a spa, several restaurants and an entertainment center, everything that you could possibly need to enjoy your stay.
The hotel part of the MGM Grand Macau consists of 600 rooms on 35 stories. The quality of the rooms are excellent and the service is outstanding as you would expect from a company like MGM. There are rooms that cater to a variety of different price levels so they can accommodate visitors regardless of their budget. Really the only downside to the MGM Grand Macau, at least for the gambler is the location. The main gambling center of the city has moved out the Cotai Strip, the MGM Grand is in a more central location. This makes it a bit of challenge to get to the other large casinos but it is a good location if you want to see the city.
