Sands Hotel Macau
Over the last few years a lot of casino resorts have been built in Macau. These are giant casinos with hotels that have hundreds of rooms attached to them. The Sands Hotel Macau is not one of these. It has a huge casino make no mistake but the hotel is very small. This can be a major attraction for a lot of visitors.
The Sands Macau is primarily a casino; unlike most of its competitors it has a very small hotel. The reason for this was largely to get into business very quickly. In 2002 Macau changed the rules about who could get a license to run a casino and the large companies that run casinos in Las Vegas were able to enter the market for the first time. In order to get into business quickly and the first to open a casino Sands chose not to build a hotel and just build a casino. They have since opened a small hotel however.
When the Sands Macau opened it quickly became very popular with gamblers who came from China. Since this was a day trip for most of the visitors there was really only a very limited need for a hotel. As a result they scaled down the plans and opened a 51 room hotel. All of the rooms are suites and are aimed mainly at visitors from China who want to spend the night. In order to cater to the tourist market Sands have built a separate hotel and casino that has a very large hotel along the newly built Cotai Strip.
Really the main reason that you would stay at the Sands Hotel Macau is to gamble at the casino. Unlike the new casino resorts that are going up in the city there are really no other amenities at the Sands. They do have one of the largest and most popular casinos in Macau but most visitors who are staying for and extended vacation normally expect to have more services like shopping and spas and entertainment. That being said the Fisherman's Wharf theme park is located right next to hotel so it may be a good place to stay if you are planning to spend time there.
The Sands Hotel Macau is not really one of the more popular options in the city for people who are looking for a hotel, largely because of its small size. However it may be worth considering if you want to avoid the crowds that you will encounter at the other casino resorts. All of the rooms are suites which is certainly a major attraction as is the fact that the hotel is located in a fairly central area. The rooms are of course of a very high quality and the service is excellent as you would expect from a company like Sands.
