There are lots of hotels in Macau; there are lots of them being built as well as the gambling industry has been opened up to competition. While the new hotels are spectacular there is something to be said for staying in one of the older hotels like the StarWorld Hotel Macau.
The StarWorld Hotel Macau is one of the many new casino hotels that went up in Macau following the change in policy that removed the gambling monopoly. Most of the new hotels were owned by the same companies that own the ones in Las Vegas however this is not the case here. The StarWorld is owned by a company that is based in Hong Kong. Nevertheless it is heavily influenced by the new Las Vegas style hotels. As one of the early entrants to the market it was built on the Macau peninsula and is now rather on the small side compared to the giant facilities that are going up along the Cotai Strip, this is why the owners are building a new hotel.
The StarWorld Hotel Macau has a casino that when it was first opened one of the largest in the city but has since been eclipsed by those in the new hotels. Nevertheless the 500 slot machines and 240 gaming tables are plenty for the number of guests that stay at the hotel. Like most of the modern casino hotels the StarWorld has a number of facilities besides the casino to keep guests entertained. This includes a shopping area, an entertainment area that puts on shows, a spa and several restaurants.
The rooms at the StarWorld Macau are pretty much what you would expect to find at this kind of facility. One thing that has to be said about the Las Vegas style casinos is that they really know how to run a hotel. The rooms are very good and available in a variety of price ranges. The service is also excellent. That being said you will find a similar quality at most of the other large hotels in Macau.
Given that there are a lot of hotels that are competing for your gambling business when you go to Macau you really have to ask why you would stay at the StarWorld. To be honest it really isn't as spectacular as some of the newer casinos that have been built in recent years. However for many people this is one of the attractions. The StarWorld is not as crowded as some of the other mega hotels and it is located in an area where there is more to do than gamble. If you stay on the Cotai Strip it is likely that you will never leave the hotel. The StarWorld however is in a much more central location which makes it much easier to get out and explore the city.
