Wynn Macau
Macau has long been a popular spot for gamblers, however the business has really boomed in recent years as new hotels and casinos get built. One of the first of the new hotels and casinos was the Wynn Macau which really set the standard for all of the ones that have followed. The result is that the Wynn Macau is no longer one of the bigger hotels in the city but it does remain a popular one.
The Wynn Macau was the first hotel and casino to open in Macau after the monopoly that restricted access to builders ended in 2001. The hotel itself was opened in 2006 and it was the first hotel in Macau that was built in the style of the Las Vegas hotels. These are now quite common as most of the hotels and casinos are now being built by the owners of the Las Vegas hotels; this is the case with Wynn Macau as well. Although it was very popular when it opened and it continues to be so it does suffer from the downside of being the first.
The main downside of going first when it came to building a Las Vegas style hotel and casino in Macau is that the ones that followed are now much larger. The original Wynn had six hundred rooms along with about three hundred slot machines and two hundred gaming tables. There are now hotels in the city that have thousands of rooms and slot machines. As a result the Wynn has added a new tower which increases the capacity by about four hundred rooms. Nevertheless it remains one of the smaller hotel casinos. This is not necessarily a bad thing for the visitor but most people are attracted to the larger facilities.
The other problem with going first is that the Wynn Macau has a location that is not all that desirable. At the time that it was built it was located in an area was quite central and seemed like it would be a good location. However all of the other casino hotels have gone up in a different location creating the Cotai Strip. This is similar to the Las Vegas strip and it is where most of the gamblers go, not being located on the strip has really hurt the Wynn Macau.
The above may give the impression that the Wynn Macau is not a good place to stay but this is far from the truth. The hotel is actually one of the better ones in the city with deluxe rooms that are available in a variety of price ranges. In addition to the casino there is a shopping center, a spa, several restaurants and an entertainment facility. Everything that you would expect to find at a casino and hotel in Las Vegas can be found at the Wynn Macau. It is just that they have been eclipsed in terms of popularity by some of their competitors.
